{"id":8776,"date":"2021-04-24T13:21:14","date_gmt":"2021-04-24T03:21:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mvec.mcri.edu.au\/?p=8776"},"modified":"2021-04-27T13:22:02","modified_gmt":"2021-04-27T03:22:02","slug":"atagi-reinforce-recommendations-on-use-of-covid-19-vaccines-following-review-of-vaccine-safety-data-and-benefits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mvec.mcri.edu.au\/hi\/atagi-reinforce-recommendations-on-use-of-covid-19-vaccines-following-review-of-vaccine-safety-data-and-benefits\/","title":{"rendered":"ATAGI reinforce recommendations on use of COVID-19 vaccines following review of vaccine safety data and benefits"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As of April 23, 2021 a total of 6 cases of <a href=\"https:\/\/mvec.mcri.edu.au\/references\/thrombosis-with-thrombocytopenia-syndrome\/\">\u0925\u094d\u0930\u094b\u092e\u094d\u092c\u094b\u0938\u093e\u0907\u091f\u094b\u092a\u0947\u0928\u093f\u092f\u093e \u0938\u093f\u0902\u0921\u094d\u0930\u094b\u092e \u0915\u0947 \u0938\u093e\u0925 \u0918\u0928\u093e\u0938\u094d\u0924\u094d\u0930\u0924\u093e<\/a> have been reported in Australia in people who have received dose 1 of COVID-19 AstraZeneca. Severity of cases have varied including 1 fatal outcome. In all reported cases, symptoms of TTS began 4-26 days after immunisation.<\/p>\n<p>The latest statement from ATAGI reinforces the current advice:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Comirnaty\u2122 is the prefered COVID-19 vaccine brand for administration in those &lt; 50 years of age. COVID-19 AstraZeneca may be administered in this age group if the benefits of immunisation are deemed to outweigh any risks<\/li>\n<li>Due to the ongoing potential for a COVID-19 outbreak, as well as an increased risk of severe disease and mortality associated with COVID-19 infection, the benefit of immunisation with COVID-19 AstraZeneca for adults &gt; 50 years of age continues to outweigh the risks associated with the vaccine<\/li>\n<li>TTS can occur at any age, however current evidence shows that the incidence of TTS is less for older adults than younger adults<\/li>\n<li>ATAGI continues to recommend that people who received the first dose of COVID-19 AstraZeneca without any serious adverse event (eg. anaphylaxis or TTS) can receive the second dose. Current data suggests that the risk of TTS following receipt of a second dose of COVID-19 AstraZeneca is considerably lower.
