Background

The Australian Academy of Science is a not-for profit organisation whose aim is to provide independent and factual information, promote public trust and understanding of science, and support global scientific collaboration. Members of the Academy have been elected for their exceptional contributions to science and research.

The science of immunisation

‘The Science of Immunisation- questions and answers’ was first produced by the Academy in 2012 and aims to assist in the understanding of the scientific processes behind vaccination and to encourage trust in vaccines for COVID-19 and other diseases.

Topics include:

  • what is immunisation?
  • what is in a vaccine?
  • who benefits from vaccines?
  • are vaccines safe?
  • what does the future hold for vaccination?
