Yellow fever is an acute viral <\/span>haemorrhagic<\/span> disease<\/span> (<\/span>a disease causing excessive internal bleeding<\/span>)<\/span> which can be <\/span>transmitted <\/span>to humans via the bites <\/span>c\u1ee7a <\/span>mosquitos<\/span> infected with yellow fever virus (YFV).<\/span><\/p>\n

B\u1ea1n c\u1ea7n t\u00ecm g\u00ec?<\/h2>\n

The incubation period of yellow fever is 3 to 6 days. The initial signs and symptoms are generally non-specific and include fever, chills, myalgia (muscle pain), fatigue, and nausea or vomiting. Symptoms usually resolve within 3 to 4 days.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Approximately 15\u201325% of cases will enter a second, more toxic phase within 24 hours after recovering from initial symptoms. This phase presents with a return of high fevers and vomiting, with epigastric pain, jaundice (the reason for the name \u2018yellow fever\u2019), multi-organ failure and haemorrhage. Bleeding can occur from the mouth, nose, eyes or stomach.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

20\u201325% of severe cases result in death 7 to 10 days after the onset of the toxic second phase.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In jungle or forest settings, YFV is transmitted from non-human primates (e.g. monkeys) to humans via mosquito bites. After a mosquito bites an infected monkey, it can transmit the virus to humans.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In urban settings, YFV can be transmitted between humans via mosquito bites. After a mosquito bites an infected person, it can transmit the virus to other people.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Aedes<\/span><\/i> V\u00e0 <\/span>Haemagogus<\/span><\/i> mosquitoes are responsible for the transmission of YFV. They are day-biting and can breed around houses in urban settings and in forest or jungle settings.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Yellow <\/span>s\u1ed1t<\/span> occurs in the tropical and subtropical regions of Africa, the Caribbean and Central\/South America. Disease risk depends on the time of year, duration of travel and degree of mosquito <\/span>exposure.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
