infectious diseases (e.g. <a href=\"https:\/\/mvec.mcri.edu.au\/references\/tetanus-prone-wounds-management\/\">tetanus<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/mvec.mcri.edu.au\/references\/rabies\/\">rabies<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/mvec.mcri.edu.au\/references\/hepatitis-b\/\">hepatitis B<\/a>)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"none\">as an adjunct to cancer treatments or protection.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Circulating donated antibodies can inhibit the recipient\u2019s own immune response to certain injected <\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\"><a href=\"https:\/\/mvec.mcri.edu.au\/references\/vaccine-platforms\/\">live-attenuated vaccines<\/a>, if the vaccines are administered too soon after the transfusion.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Recommendations<\/h2>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">There are prescribed intervals between the transfusion of NHIg and\/or a blood product and the administration of certain vaccines. This is to allow enough time for any donated antibodies to clear,\u00a0 optimising long<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u2011<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">term effectiveness of the vaccine. The interval length depends on the type of product and the volume\/dose transfused.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">The following recommendations are aimed at ensuring the adequate immune response is achieved. They do not reflect concerns related to safety or adverse events following vaccine administration.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">It is important to note that inactivated (non<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u2011<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">live) vaccines can be safely administered at any time during or following the administration of NHIg and\/or blood
