Vaccine-associated enhanced disease (VAED) is a rare phenomenon <\/span>where a person who has been vaccinated experiences<\/span> M\u1ed9t <\/span>(usually)<\/span> more severe clinical presentation of an infection tha<\/span>

<\/div><\/span> would normally be seen in an unvaccinated person<\/span>.<\/span> The mechanism<\/span>S<\/span> for how VAED occurs <\/span>are<\/span> complex and<\/span> not clearly understood<\/span>. Mechanisms may include<\/span> c\u00e1c <\/span>behav<\/span>T\u00f4i<\/span>our<\/span> c\u1ee7a <\/span>M\u1ed9t<\/span>ntibodies generated from vaccination<\/span> V\u00e0 <\/span>abnormal T-cell responses<\/span>.<\/span> With<\/span> the exception of<\/span> dengue vaccination<\/span>,<\/span> where use is<\/span> restricted to <\/span>minimi<\/span>S<\/span>e<\/span> VAED risk<\/span> (see below)<\/span>, <\/span>

Diagnosis<\/h2>\n

It can be difficult to distinguish between breakthrough disease (when disease occurs in a vaccinated individual because of inadequate vaccine protection) and VAED.<\/span> To identify a case of VAED, it is necessary to have a clear understanding of the clinical presentation and usual course of the natural disease. VAED is identified by comparison to the natural disease; the clinical presentation of VAED is atypical, modified or more severe.<\/span> Factors to be considered when assessing a possible case of VAED include:<\/span><\/p>\n
