An outbreak of Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV), a rare but potentially lethal mosquito-transmitted disease that can cause inflammation of the brain has been detected in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia. While most infections are asymptomatic, it is currently the leading cause of vaccine-preventable encephalitis in Asia.<\/p>\n
