The US-based Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) now recommends individual-based decision-making for\u00a0hepatitis B vaccination in babies born to mothers who have tested negative for liver infection.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

According to BBC, public health experts worry ACIP\u2019s decision will raise unfounded safety concerns about the vaccine.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Up to 90% of those infected with hepatitis\u00a0B in\u00a0infancy will go on to develop chronic infection. Chronic hepatitis B can lead to cirrhosis, liver failure, liver\u00a0cancer\u00a0and\u00a0death. There is no cure for chronic\u00a0hepatitis\u00a0B.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
